India’s first two-day art book fair will begin in Delhi on
February 24. The New
Delhi Art Book Fair (NDABF)’s inaugural edition will take place at the Indira
Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) at Mansingh Road. It is being
dedicated to the celebration of the country’s rich arts and culture heritage through
the prism of artists and books. It will be open to the public from 12.00 noon
to 6.30 PM. There will be special workshops and activities for children.
The
first ‘free and open’ art book fair will be a unique platform to discover India’s
vast arts and culture spectrum through diverse panel discussions, workshops,
art and book exhibitions and much more.
It will
begin with a talk by a noted art historian, photographer and film maker Benoy
K. Behl on his latest book - The Art of India - Sculpture and Mural Painting. Mr.
Arup Chatterjee will talk about aura of Indian trains and railway stations and
its representations in writing, cinema and cultural production with his book
The Purveyors of Destiny: A cultural Biography of Indian Railways. This will be
followed by panel discussions on art in the age of Instragram with illustrators
and travel photographers and writers. The
day will close with a focus talk on Smt. Kapaila Vatsayan by her biographer
(Cognitive Birography), Ms Jyoti Sabharwal.
The
second day will begin with The journey of a vintage camera collector about his
museum- The Museo Camera, founded by Aditya Arya in conversation with Mr. Samar
Jodha – Photographer and an artist. The second day will also highlight the art and
culture of zine making and independent voices in Indian zine culture. A Mexican
photographer and Chief editor of Photography books Susan Casarin will discuss
her book ‘Realities and Desire’ with Santigo Ruy. Followed will be a journey of
Indian Culture Graphic Novel: From genesis to taking it to global audience with
Girija Jhujhunwala, Sourav Dutta and Lalit Sharma. Chef Michael Swamy, currently Chef Patron at
Nueva, who has authored various books and has been a food stylist, will be
discussing his book Indian food with the publisher Ajay Mago, moderated by
Ipshita Mitra, Editor, Om Books.
Independent Musicians from the band ‘The Circus
and Undying Inc.’ will discussing the evolution of the taste, music and visual
culture in the medium in contemporary India.
The
festival will use the medium of art, culture and books to build a series of
workshops: Handmade Bookmaking by Tara Books, Stop-Motion Animation by Inteqam
Alam of the Delhi School of Arts, The Art of Burst Sketching Indian Portraits
by Abhinav Sharma and a journey with Indian Calligraphy by renowned artist Yusuf
Gouri.

Exhibition – Iran and India: From Persian Gulf to Indian Ocean by Daryoosh
Akbarzadeh:
It will explore the centuries old relations
between Iran and India and the common ties in various cultural sphere. The
exhibition also features images of Hindi temple in Bandar Abbas, the Indian
Caravan Serai in the Kerman, the Gurudwara in Zahedan and other common heritage
of Iran and India.
Zines exhibition
from Across the world:
Bombay Underground X Tokio Ga will present an
exclusive exhibition on zines from across the world.
Asia Film
Focus, 2017: TIME MACHINE (106 minutes):
This is an annual independent film festival
held in Singapore with this year theme explores notions of archival and found
footage in the context of contemporary film making in India and Singapore.
Singapore films will be curated by Objectif, and India’s by Cinedarbaar. These
films will be screened exclusively for the festival.
Project Cinema Shiro (112 Minutes):
An
Austrian film maker – Albert Allgaier will showcase his cult classic
experimental film at the festival. It was earlier shown at Echo Park Film
Center (Los Angeles), Bolderāja (Riga), Backyard Stories (Batumi),
Kunsthalle3000 (Vienna), C.C.O.P. (Porto) and StudioP (Vilnius).
Exclusive
Workshops and activities For Children:
KAHANIYA
- Spread over two days, several activities for
children will be organized for children such as story telling session, script
reading and writing workshop from Indian mythology and folk culture.
Art
Cosplay
A competition organized for the fans on 25th
February, Sunday at 04:00 p.m. A chance for all participants to dress up as
their favorite character, artists, authors at the New Delhi Art Book Fair.
Prizes to be given to best dressed.
Publishers
Exhibitors At The Festival:
A glimpse to Indie books of Mexico. A series of curated indie books will be at
display from noted publishing houses - Tara Books, Moti Lal Banarasi Das, Caboose,
Zines from India and World, Stellar Publication, Frontline Publication, Campfire,
TokioGa Indie Journals. Besides publishers, several artists will be making
their works available at the festival
