Luv Ranjan shocked everyone when he
came out with Pyaar Ka Punchnama, back in 2011. It was probably the first time
that someone had made an out and out women-hating film in Hindi cinema. The
film in many ways gave rise to a whole new genre as far as Bollywood is
concerned. The film’s lead Kartik Aaryan became an overnight sensation thanks
to his epic girl-hating monologue. Of course, he topped it up in the explosive 2015
sequel Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2. The love-hate chemistry between Aaryan and Nushrat
Bharucha has been one of the biggest USPs of the Pyaar Ka Punchnama franchise.
Three years after the grand
success of Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2, Luv Ranjan has come out with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. While the film hasn’t officially been described as a sequel but it is
certainly a successor to the Pyaar Ka Punchnama films, both in letter and spirit.
The film stars Kartik Aaryan, Nushrat Bharucha, and Sunny Singh in the pivotal
roles and co-stars Ishita Raj Sharma, Alok Nath, Virendra Saxena, and Ayesha
Raza Mishra. The film’s basic premise is that all girls are inherently mean, manipulative,
and malicious. So, unless you buy this wacky idea for the sake of your own entertainment
you are better off giving it a miss!
Kartik Aaryan, Sunny Singh, and Nushrat Bharucha in Sonu Ke Tittu Ki Sweety |
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is a story
of two childhood friends, Sonu (played by Kartik Aaryan) and Titu (played Sunny
Singh). Titu is easily smitten by girls and Sonu feels responsible for guarding
his gullible friend against the vicious girls who are always finding new ways
of exploiting him. Every time Titu gets serious with a girl, Sonu takes it upon
himself to get rid of her. But for how long can he contain Titu? Sonu Ke Titu
Ki Sweety is unique a story of bromance that we seldom get to watch these days.
These days on seeing two men, who are really close to each other, we inevitably
start questioning their sexuality. Films like Brokeback Mountain certainly have
had a role to play in this. Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety is a reminder that bromance
is not an outdated thing. That two guys can enjoy a high level of emotional
intimacy in a strictly non-sexual relationship.
Overall, Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety
is a non-stop entertainer that can be described as the perfect follow up to Pyaar
Ka Punchnama 2. The film not only fulfills expectations but even surpasses
them. Yes, it is predictable, defies logic and all norms of relationship counseling, and appears a bit clichéd at times,
but it is great fun nonetheless! While Kartik Aaryan and Nushrat Bharucha are
yet again superb in their roles, the real surprise comes from Alok Nath and Virendra
Saxena who play super-cool oldies with attitudes to die for. Credit to Luv
Ranjan and team for delivering yet another fun-filled extravaganza!
