The trio of Sujoy Ghosh, Vidya Balan, and Arjun Rampal were
in the capital to promote their upcoming film Kahaani 2. They looked quite
upbeat about the film’s prospects at the box-office despite the uncertainty
created by the government’s demonetization policy. Brushing aside the
demonetization row, Ghosh asserted: “I hope that the cineastes who want to
watch it would come to watch it regardless of the cash crunch. People have
really liked the trailer and I hope that they will definitely go and watch the
film in the theatres.”
During a brief exchange with Arjun Rampal I questioned him
if Kahaani’s success had an influence on his decision to work with Sujoy on
Kahaani 2. In his reply, Arjun categorically stated that when Sujoy gave him the script it
was fortuitously never mentioned to him that it was going to be the sequel of
Kahaani and so he approached it like any other script. It was the character
that made him say yes to Sujoy and not anything else.
When asked to share her experience of filming Kahaani 2,
Vidya Balan explained: “I am very restless and impatient person. While making a
suspense thriller there is intensity in every scene and the genre keeps me most
interested and engaged as an audience and as an actor. A director like Sujoy
ensures that in between the scenes the atmosphere is quite chilled out which
makes it really easy for actors.”

It is worth mentioning that Kahaani 2 is coming after a gap
of 4 years after Kahaani and in between Ghosh has directed just one short film Ahalya.
When I inquired him (watch the video below) about the same, Ghosh explained: “It just takes a lot of
time to write a script because I am not a trained writer not I am not a trained
director and I have to first teach myself every time. Then it also takes a lot
to time to secure the actors’ dates.”
Kahaani 2 has been creating buzz ever since its trailer was launched on YouTube on October 25, 2016. The trailer revolves around one Durga Rani Singh (played by Balan), who is wanted for murder & kidnapping. The film is slated to release on December 2, 2016.
