Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival - Star Press Conference

A Potpourri of Vestiges Feature

Mumbai Academy of Moving Image, popularly known as MAMI, is back with the much awaited 19th Mumbai Film Festival, which is to commence from 12th October, and will run for a week. This year, MAMI is going to showcase 220 films from 49 countries in 51 languages, thus consolidating MAMI's commitment to establish itself as an inclusive film festival representative of the diversity observed across the globe coalesced by a ubiquitous desire to share personal experiences.

Kiran Rao, MAMI Festival Co-chairperson said that their endeavor is to "change and shape the cinema around us, in the city". About the masterclasses, workshops, in-depth conversations conducted by MAMI, the filmmaker said that these ventures have "added a great deal to peoples’ engagement with cinema".

Mumbai Film Festival is racing forward with an objective to maintain diversity by creating space for different perspectives to coexist through cinema culture and the selection committee members adhere to its motto and picked films from countries like Uganda, Kyrgyzstan, Slovenia, Senegal and Iceland which hopefully will be welcomed by the local audience as fresh additions to current portfolio.

"I strongly believe that good films make us into better people" said the festival director, Anupama Chopra. Anurag Kashyap, who is a board member and director, said that "MAMI has really transformed a lot of fortunes, especially for the regional first time Indian filmmakers." Rohan Sippy added, “The Filmmakers Bootcamp is another great step that becomes the fertile ground for the next generation of filmmakers – MAMI will keep ploughing the fields, so that we have wonderful stories from the next generation of storytellers.”

MAMI has been actively organizing screenings of Indie and offbeat cinema--both Indian and International titles.

With the kind of expansion and response Mumbai Film Festival has received over the last few years, the festival looks bigger than ever this year and one hopes that slowly Mumbai Film Festival will also stand equally with the popular European Film Festivals. Currently MAMI has elevated their festival to another level by adding many regional and foreign language films, it just needs to conjure up from somewhere the "glam" factor to actually push it toward the next level.

Best Indian films from lndian languages like Konkani, Nepali, Chokri will be screened in India Gold category. There are 12 debut feature films from Colombia, Georgia, Spain, South Africa, Iceland, Turkey, France and the UK will feature in International Competition.

Creative Director, Jio MAMI with Star, Smriti Kiran summed up beautifully by adding "To fill chasms and build bridges where currently there are none." She urges all movie lovers to participate in the festival and "immerse themselves in the movie-mania."

"We offer the best of world cinema to the people of Mumbai and we offer the best of Indian cinema to the world" is MAMI's manifesto. The festival will open with Anurag Kashyap's latest feature "Mukkabaaz" on 12th October. Reserve your seats soon at https://in.bookmyshow.com/mami/
