Celebrate India's Superpower Moment with Parmanu this Independence Day on Zee Cinema

The history of post-independence India will always be bifurcated in what happened before Pokhran-II and what happened after. In May 1998, when India successfully conducted a series of five nuclear test explosions, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the then Prime Minister, declared India as a full nuclear state. What made it a truly historic occasion was the fact that India had not just conducted successful nuclear tests 24 years after Pokhran - I but had done so by hoodwinking the CIA, which acknowledged India’s triumph as its greatest intelligence failure. Surely, the success of Pokhran - II marked the beginning of India’s actual tryst with destiny. Under the leadership of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, who subsequently went on to become India’s 11th President, a team of scientists and army men succeeded in showing the world India’s true might as a nuclear capable state. Thus began India’s glorious journey as a superpower.

Even since he took oath as India’s Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was determined not to repeat the mistakes of his predecessor. Let’s not forget that India had made a similar attempt in Pokhran in 1995 as well but US satellites were able to spot the heat leading to the nuclear tests forcing India to halt the operation. Vajpayee’s first term in 1996 didn’t last long enough but when he came back in 1998 he was determined to finish what couldn’t be completed in 1995. And the rest is history! But the success story of Pokhran is not just a chapter in the history of post-independence India. For, it is a moment of great national pride. However, the series of events that led to the historic event are still not as well known to the masses as they should be. So it is important to create awareness about India’s historic achievement so that every Indian’s heart is filled with a sense of pride and belonging by learning about what India truly achieved with the success of Pokhran -II and how.

As far as the what part is concerned, the success of Pokhran - II not just made India a nuclear state but it also ensured great security for India against its enemies. India has always believed in peace and by becoming a capable nuclear state it has only strengthened its commitment towards global peace. To quote Dr. Kalam, “Unless India stands up to the world, no one will respect us. In this world, fear has no place. Only strength respects strength.” As for the how part, Abhishek Sharma’s box-office hit Parmanu: The Story of Pokhran does a wonderful job of bringing the story of Pokhran - II to life. The film that grossed over 60 crores stars John Abraham, Diana Penty, and Boman Irani in the pivotal roles. After a successful run at the theatres, Parmanu is now set for its world television premiere. Here comes your opportunity to celebrate and relive India’s Superpower moment this Independence Day with Parmanu from the comfort of your homes.
