A Potpourri of Vestiges Feature
India is shining bright at the 76th Cannes Film Festival this year. The prestigious festival kicked off on Tuesday,16th May and saw some of Bollywood’s leading ladies debut at the coveted red carpet. While India was chosen as the Country of Honour at the festival last year and has become an integral part over the years, it was in the year 2016 when Aishwarya Rai’s ‘Sarbjit’ premiered at the festival and saw it being represented by the cast as well as the crew, at the red carpet. For the first time, an Indian film had its entire team being announced at the red carpet and walked down the prestigious Cannes carpet. This critically acclaimed film completes 7 years today.
Producer Deepshikha Deshmukh took to her gram walking down memory lane and shared glimpses of the films premiere and her grand debut at the French Riviera. Cannes veteran Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Richa C, director Omung Kumar and producers Deepshikha Deshmukh and Jackky Bhagnani are seen walking together at the red carpet and interacting with the media. It indeed was the first time when we saw the entire team of director, makers and actors of an Indian film make their presence felt at the Cannes festival and at the esteemed red carpet. Deepshikha, who is one of Bollywood’s youngest female producers shared that she chose this as her debut film as the brother-sister bond resonated with her and she wanted the world to see this soul-stirring story.
It was a moment of pride for her to represent an Indian film at one of the most prestigious film festivals in the world. In addition to this, it was absolutely heartwarming to know that she chose Indian handlooms to debut at Cannes, 7 years back.
